True Blue Power® Provides MD835 Lithium Emergency Power Supply for Upgraded Nextant 400XT

WICHITA, Kan. — True Blue Power, a division of Mid-Continent Instruments, has signed an agreement with Nextant Aerospace to add another significant cost-saving and safety-enhancing improvement to Nextant's popular upgrade of the Beechjet 400A. The Nextant 400XT will now be equipped with a long-lasting, lightweight MD835 Nanophosphate® Lithium-ion Emergency Power Supply. It will replace the original Beechjet 400's two heavier and maintenance prone lead-acid emergency power supplies which have half the life expectancy of the MD835.

The upgraded 400XT features new Williams engines, Rockwell Collins Proline 21 avionics and enhanced cabin amenities that substantially increase the airplane's performance, range, navigation, safety systems, reliability and passenger comfort. The addition of the MD835 Emergency Power Supply is consistent with Nextant's overall program philosophy to extend product life and add customer value with each design change or system improvement.

"The MD835 features breakthrough Nanophosphate® lithium-ion technology which offers considerable improvements over lead acid batteries. It is 63 percent lighter, which contributes to the fuel efficiency of the airplane, and it has a life expectancy of ten years — more than double previous models,” explained Tom Genovese, True Blue Power's Director of Sales. “In addition, maintenance is far simpler and affordable. Capacity checks, which used to be a semi-annual requirement, are necessary only once every two years, and they’re available at virtually any avionics service center. Concerns over special handling requirements for previous battery models often meant sending the units off to remote battery shops for time-consuming and expensive capacity checks. The MD835’s extended service life and relatively easy maintenance, when considered over the life of the unit, are undoubtedly enough to amortize the cost of purchase," Genovese added.

The MD835 automatically provides 24.5 VDC power for critical or standby equipment in the event of aircraft power failure. It is a direct replacement for PS-835/PS-855 and can maintain a full charge by recharging during normal flight operations. It is among numerous improvements combined to create the Nextant 400XT, which was announced at NBAA 2010. The resulting aircraft exhibits a range of 2005nm (4 pax, NBAA IFR reserves) with a remarkable 32-percent reduction in operating costs.
