Lancair Evolutions Fly with True Blue Power® Lithium-ion Batteries

Builder’s assist programs offer lithium-ion batteries, bring revolutionary technology to owner-built aircraft

OSHKOSH, Wis. — True Blue Power announced a growing list of builder’s assistance programs offering Lancair Evolution Turbine owners True Blue Power TX16 lithium-ion engine-start batteries. Among the businesses offering programs are Advanced Aviation, Cascade Aircraft Management, Fibercraft, Inc., and Performance One Aviation. With extensive Lancair experience, these businesses provide owners the benefit of modern technologies.

“As an Evolution owner and pilot, I noticed the benefits of the TX16 battery immediately. With cooler engine starts and higher engine RPM, I’m seeing over 20% NG compared to 17% with my previous, lead-acid batteries,” explained Jeff Edwards, President, AvSafe. “And the weight savings is significant from an installation and maintenance perspective. In the Evolution, the batteries are mounted on the firewall, forward the pilot and copilot rudder pedals, below the instrument panel. The TX16 weighs less than 16 pounds. So, the challenge of installing or removing a 45-pound battery from this location has been eliminated.”

The TX16 is designed with the same architecture as FAA-certified True Blue Power battery products and offers the experimental aircraft market a safe and reliable lithium-ion main ship battery. This 16 Ah (amp-hour) battery features A123 Nanophosphate® lithium-ion chemistry with unmatched power, safety, life and energy. It weighs 15.6 pounds—a 45 percent weight savings—when compared to older, lead-acid or nickel-cadmium (NiCad) alternatives.

The TX16 uniquely features a built-in charger and internal protections. This includes overcharge; over-discharge; over-current; short circuit; under-temperature protection (via an automatic built-in heater); and an over-temperature protection circuit. The battery’s 2-year maintenance cycle equates to 50 – 90 percent less maintenance cost. The TX16 delivers faster and cooler engine starts, and is rated to last a solid eight years.

For more information about the TX16 Lithium-ion Battery, visit the True Blue Power booth #2007 in Exhibit Hangar B throughout EAA AirVenture 2016, July 25 – 31 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The TX16 is not intended for installation in type-certified aircraft.
