A reliable airspeed indicator is critical for preventing stalls, overspeed, and for flying accurate approaches. From classic pitot-static analog dials to modern digital units with integrated, color-coded V-speeds, each model should deliver clear readability and temperature-compensated accuracy.

For aircraft flying under IFR, FAA regulation 91.411 requires the static pressure system to be tested and inspected every 24 months. It is also standard practice to inspect the full pitot-static system anytime it is opened for maintenance.

You can install a digital airspeed indicator in a certified aircraft if the unit is TSO-C2d compliant. The installation is typically considered a major alteration and must be documented on a Form 337 signed by a mechanic with Inspection Authorization (IA).
